If you are waiting for a report from a buddy on great salmon update, I would suggest getting up north now. There is a decent amount of fish in every river but I doubt it will get as good as we have seen it the past 5 years. We have truly been spoiled the past couple years. A lot of what I hear is 3rd hand source but I figured I would pass it on to you guys. This late in the year, the fishing is going to start slowing down. However, with the way this fall has been going on, there may be some major pushes. It's really hard to say though with the way this year has gone and the DNR cutting the numbers. However, any day up north is better then not going (unless you have car issues, or never make it, ect :P)
With that being said, I was able to head up north to Craigs Bible, Bows, and Bogey weekend with members Kevin and Adam. We hit up a river a little north of where Camp was for 5 hours. Fishing started out a little tough for us. I believe all the rain they received had fish running and not so much sitting in holes. I've had this happen before. 45 minutes before dark, it seemed the fish settle down and we found a hot hole and hit 6 fish. We all managed to hook up with a fish or two. Bites came on skein(salmon eggs) and golf ball size spawn bags. Kevin landed his first fish, a nice 12-14 lb hen. It was great to back on the river where I learned a lot about salmon.
Here is my salmon from the weekend.
Unfor. I did not grab a picture from Kevin and Adam with their salmon.
I think I found some insurance but that is still up in the air. Hopefully find that out today. Really looking forward to fishing steelhead this year.
Good Luck if anyone gets out!
