For the past year I have been working on getting my OUPV United States Coast Guard license. It has been a year of struggles. They finally just let me know I am 120 days short of being able to move on. I need 360 days since I was 15. I think I can squeeze another 60 days in but doubt 120 is doable.
Since I need at least another 60 days, I am going to try and get on the water as much as possible this fall. I am opening up my boat and a trip on the river to anyone who is interested from FAST in catching salmon legally. This is a great opportunity if you have ever been interested in fishing river salmon. The only thing I ask is to help me with gas for the truck. I am willing to drive up north just about anytime from now till Halloween.
A little about myself: I have been fishing river salmon ever since I was the age of 10. Caught my first big lake salmon when I was 11. I am now 28 years old. When I got into college my friends were the locals on the river. The locals on the river knew me as the kid because I fished so much. I also spent a summer in Alaska guiding on the world famous Kenai river. Since then I have really figured out how to catch these fish legally. My favorite technique is fishing them with bobber and skein. Double-digit numbers of salmon is not un-common during the peak of the run. I also enjoy casting body-baits for them the first part of the season.
The only days I have book with family and friends are:
September 4-10
Possibly September 14-15
September 20-22
As of now, I am free all other dates up to Halloween. Once mid-October rolls around I will start concentrating on fall steelhead for a couple weeks.
Salmon fishing is looking really good so far out on the big lake and a few fish have been seen heading up some rivers already. We haven’t seen big fish like this in 10 years.
