Date: Saturday, June 21st
Time: 9am - 3pm
Location: 3440 Primary Rd, Auburn Hills, MI 48326
Yes folks local to both Orion & Troy campuses, Jim Petty and myself will be competing in a local Kansas City Barbeque Society BBQ Competition in Auburn Hills, MI. (Update: location is at 3440 Primary Street - 2 blocks SE from the intersection of Auburn & Squirrel Rds).
We will have Black Betty on duty to cook chicken, pork ribs, pork butts and beef briskets. We will be cooking for certified KCBS judges for cash prizes (and bragging rights). So come join us.
Since this is a bbq competition event, here are some factoids about the event:
* we will be setting up on Friday evening; we start cooking around 2am (Saturday morning).
* strict rules are being followed throughout the event and the bbq has to meet certain KCBS standards (ie "not falling off the bone" ribs)
* our busy time is from 10:00 am until 1:30pm; we are doing final presentations on our four entries; turn in times start at noontime; so if we don't have a chance to chat - there is a reason (our apologies ahead of time); anyone interested in learning what competition bbq is all about and is a FAST member, will be welcomed to be inside the canopy tent to observe!!
* no sampling allowed for the guests; but after our last turn in at 1:30 pm, we can discuss our trials & tribulations about competition bbq cooking.
* free JEMMS sauce to anyone showing up at this event wearing a FAST shirt or kilt.
Come join our in the fun with thee bbq team from the KCC Birmingham Campus. We could use a lot of prayers and support from all of our FAST brothers & sisters at this event. For those wondering what those words on our logo are: To Smoke, To Sauce and To Serve.
PS: along with our championship meats on the smoker/grill, we will be cooking for the participants at the South Oakland Shelter's dinner that following Monday (June 23rd) evening at Main Campus. Come join us there as well. If you can't make it to the SOS dinner on Monday ... maybe contribute/donate ($$) in our team cooking them a well deserve bbq dinner???
