LANSING, Mich. (WZZM) - A Michigan lawmaker wants to change the annual opening of firearm deer hunting season to have it begin on a weekend.

State representative Kevin Cotter, a Republican from Mount Pleasant proposes the date change in a bill introduced last week.

Currently, firearm deer season begins each year on November 15. But under Cotter's bill, it would begin on the second or third Saturday in November, closest to November 15.

That would allow three weekends of hunting, Instead of the usual two.

    But it also adds a week of hunting which gives guys more time to get out.  I agree, though, traditions are a good thing and I can't imagine what I-75 will look like on November 14th.

    I have mixed feeling, it would add more bow time maybe, that isn't clear yet, someone has proposed a time-out period.  I also kinda like my yearly November 15th trip with my friend Dave.

    That would be sweet for me.  Sorry, but Danielle's b-day is November 15th.  I could be up north the weekend after her birthday.  Plus, wouldn't that add more time for bow season?
