Haiti Mission Trip

Hello, The reason for this letter; immediate opportunity to return to Haiti, children’s glasses, and support.

Weeks ago I got a phone call from my good friend Dave who had kept in touch with a Haitian couple who was running a children’s orphanage in Haiti. We had an opportunity to visit this orphanage and love on these children during my first visit to this impovriged country.  We were able to take, print and frame photos of these children as a gift to them.  For most of the kids it was the first time that they had seen an image of themselves.  As I said my friend was able to build a relationship with the Haitian couple leading these young children and during their most recent contact Dave found out that, through some bizarre circumstances, the children had to be moved to a new location and are severely malnourished.

To give God glory the evil has been stopped and Dave has assembled a small strike force of men and women who will be going back to Haiti where we will meet cargo containers of peanut butter and building supplies.   Our mission will be to aid in nutrition and to build bunk beds and a large kitchen table where 20 children can eat, study and pray.

We will be on Haitian soil for only 5 days which doesn’t leave much time to accomplish much beyond our set objectives.  God has placed on my heart something that doesn’t take up much time or effort and it is something that you can help with.  If we could start a collection of all your unused eye glasses I will get them down to the 20 children who may need them.  I realize that an eyeglass campaign like this could become very large so we’ll have to set limits on it.  We will limit it to children’s glasses and, based on the 20 children and the different prescription strengths and luggage size, I think that 60 pair will be the max.  If you have a case to go with the glasses please send it.  I will leave my address and phone # at the end of this letter for a collection point.  I would like to have 60 pair collected by Nov. 30th.

I hope that this letter has conveyed how urgent our team’s actions are needed and how fast the planning is happening.  In past mission trips, that I was able to be involved with, I was able to be sponsored through Kensington Church. Then, I was afforded more time to prepare and raise funds.  I am thankful for those past trips because now I have all the inoculations needed for this trip which will reduce the cost of this trip.

All this effort will not be possible if I am not able to get the funding needed.  I need your help.  Elevate Detroit has been gracious and allowed me to raise funds through their non-profit status which will allow all your contributions to be tax deductible.  If you will visit the elevatedetroit.com website and click on the donate tab you can contribute using your credit card or pay pal.  If you wish to help by writing a check please make it and mail it to Elevate Detroit at 1723 Kirkton Dr, Troy, Mich. 48083.  Please put, Haiti Scott Wakefield in the memo line.  I appreciate your generosity.
