FF & F #6 Results

Well the story of this FF & F #6 series event is the story of the one that got away. A strong North wind and cloudy skies made for some rough waters and tough fishing. First timer to a FAST event, Tou Yang told his story of the small mouth that got away at the boat. And another guy on that boat told his story of his phone getting away never to be seen again. (oops, sorry Jerry) Jerry also told us of the two fish that got away in the first hour of our tournament. Steve, Jerry's friend who brought his just purchased boat, was a great addition to the outing. He was able to bring aboard four of the ten anglers that attended. Thanks Steve, please join us again.

As for the other three boats that attended, Chuck and Scott Kimmerling caught a few small mouth. But the story of those two was the nice 30 plus inch pike that Scott was able to land. His catch won him the non-target fish pot of $45. His fish photo is on the home page slide show. Mark Prokop and his anglers showed up at the ramp, after the event, completely soaked to the bone! No one from that boat had a good fishing story, just chattering teeth and shivering convulsions.

As for the host and FAST sponsored boat, we landed three nice small mouth. First spot was a complete disappointment. We moved a half mile West, and after about twenty minutes, I saw a fish surface just off the bow of the boat. I quickly tossed a jointed Rapala crank bait that direction. Two cranks of my reel, and the rod tip loaded up and I set the hook on our first fish of the day. 17 in. small mouth, netted by Cal Wilson. Nice job Cal! On our next move, Cal landed the winning small mouth, a 17 & 3/4 in. beauty of a fish. Then the fun started. We moved again, south of the ramp in some pretty rough water. Knowing I needed to land at least a fish longer than 17 & 3/4 to beat my friend Cal, I threw my crank bait from the bow of the boat. It was the first cast at this location. WHAAMMM!! Fish on!! This fish was not happy to be hooked, and fought all the way to the boat. Cal, trying to net this fish, missed it at least three times. Once in the boat I laid it down on the yard stick to check the length. First the nose, then slide to the tail, and squeeze the tail together and, OOOhhhh!! 18 incher!!

Cal was so nice and congratulatory, to me. Little did he know, but as I slid my hand to the tail of this fish to squeeze down the tail, I slid the whole fish over to make sure he saw that it was bigger than his earlier caught fish. (LOL) I know what you're thinking, "You cheated!". It was not cheating, I called Cal on the way home to meet with him and Ron for some food, and to tell him he won the longest target fish pot. I really need to stop goofing around all the time. I was only playing around with Cal, but when we got to the ramp, guys were asking Cal and Ron how we did, while I was getting the truck to get the boat out of the water, and while I was away, my so called 18 in. fish was exposed before I could tell Cal that I was just playing with him. So, with that, here are the numbers.

4 boats, 10 anglers.

longest target fish (17 3/4 in. Bass)....Cal Wilson..$50

longest non-target fish (30 + in. pike) ....Scott Kimmerling..$45

smallest fish...(10 in silver bass) ......Mark Prokop....Sleeve of Titlest golf balls (might want to take up golf instead of fishing.)

first to limit out....(bass).....No one!! Carry over again.

spinning rod, plastic lures, and next week we add something else.

I will be up North next Thursday, and will have someone else host the FF & F #7 event. I'm thinking we could try this one more time before moving into the inland lakes. So be watching for the event posting on Sunday or Monday. Thanks again to all the anglers that participated.

Jimma'!
