As sportsman we have a lot of decisions coming up. Where to hunt, how to hunt, how much to hunt.
Where- Do we kinda follow the rules. That property owner is never around I"ll just hunt the edge. I'll only shoot over the fence if it's a big buck. He won't care! I had permission before it's OK.
How- camp deer is ok, my wife tag isn't being used, why not fill it. Whoops it just went off. I'll fill my buddies tag he wants me to. I'll tag it later. I thought it was a buck- I'll use my buddies tag t make it right.
How much- I can miss my kids game -just this once, it's hunting season it only comes around once a year-they'll understand. One over limit is ok- everyone does it.
Sound familiar, I WRESTLED WITH MOST AND FAILED AT SOME.
As Christians we need to listen to God, not our heads or hearts. We know what is right and wrong and the devil is quick to point out reasons why should stray. Yes, stray from whats right. Stray from Gods word. We need to be leaders, we need to set examples for others to follow. We need to follow the rules!
Ok if that isn't enough guilt, let me tell you a story. A true story. This is not my story nor do I know the guys involved. I have a close friend who knows the guy I'm about to talk about. Lets call him Jack
Jack went out west a few years back. I think he had been going there for years. He knew the outfitter pretty good. It was a sweet deal. Jack killed a lot of animals with this outfitter. The outfitter got some of his tags legally and some not so much. Many tags were land owner control tags which were then sold to clients. Some animals never were tagged. The outfitter even promoted hawks and other predators to be shot-he raised game birds and they are a menace! Long story short not all practices were legal and the hunter-Jack knew it.
Jack "after a long investigation from fish and game officers"was found guilty
They kept the animals, fined him $25,000 took away hunting privileges for 2 years, and over $10,000 in lawyer fees. This is a true story. The fish and game targeted over 40 Michigan hunters along with many guys from all over. I imagine it will make news shortly?
James 4:17
17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
1 John 3:7
Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.
Romans 13:1-5
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience
