Men - See if your calendar is open this coming Saturday morning from 9-10:30am (plan on being there by 8:15-8:20am because it will be packed out)... Father John Riccardo is speaking in Lake Orion. See the attached file to check out the event. I got this event forwarded to me by my small group leader, and he highly recommends him. He's partnered with Kensington and Steve Andrews over the past four or five years on material to strengthen men. I will be leaving from Royal Oak about 7:45 am (or earlier, depending on the weather), and I have a couple of seats in my truck. Let me know if you are interested! Again see the attached file for more info.

  • Likewise, I was there as well. Started with a men's Mass at 07:30am. Myrick Hall was standing room only for Fr. Riccardo - my estimate is more than 200 men. Fr. John is an awesome speaker and teacher. Fun, witty, and yet very serious with the Word and its meaning for us men. Fear: an unpleasant feeling in the presence of danger. Matt 8:23-27. We are ALL at sea in this journey called life. In the midst of "seismos" - trust in Jesus to bring you through the storm. Fear not - do not be afraid. The flipside of fear is courage! The key to courage is PEACE. In the midst of the storm, He speaks to us (He YELLS) - "WHAT'S THE PROBLEM"? Have faith, and trust. Peace is His GIFT to us. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus!

Brave Hearts is the men's group at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Lapeer Road in Lake Orion. You can see additional information at their website http://www.stjosephlakeorion.org/faith/adult_formation/bravehearts..... You will find info for acquiring CDs and DVDs from Brave Heart events. I don't know about Brave Heart podcasts - but I know you can get podcasts of Fr. John's sermons and messages at Our Lady of Good Counsel http://www.olgcparish.net/. Fr. John is a good friend of Steve Andrews, and has spoken at KCC in the past. If you've never heard him, you are missing something very special from a servant of the Most High.

.... and yes, I may have a good memory.... but not THAT good. But I do take good notes. ; )
  • Sounds awesome. I wonder if I can find a podcast.

It was great, the speaker was really good, he spoke about the peace that Jesus gives us in order to quench the fears we have in our lives as men. Through that peace, we can find the courage to face those issues that give us fear. The scripture he used was in Matthew when Jesus was sleeping on the boat in the middle of the storm, and how the greek/hebrew illustrates the gravity and fear that the disciples had, and how Jesus remained calm and at peace. A lasting statement he made is that they were in the storm on the lake because they followed Jesus, they wouldn't have been out there had they been on their own...which is so true in our lives as Christians, following Jesus is never easy but through all of the tough times, he always takes care of his own.

  • Yeah, I am pretty sure it is men only, I called the phone number and it told me that I had reached the mailbox of the "Bravehearts Men's Group"...don't take me 100% on it, but the guy that told me about it is only going with his men's group as well, and he usually takes his wife whenever possible for these types of seminars...see you there!
