Ice Fishing Event

During our monthly meeting, there was a desire to hosting an ice fishing event at a local pond/lake.  The possible dates are Sat. January 29th or February 5th.

What we are looking for is information on:

  *  who are serious ice fisherman

  *  what possible sites are

  *  who has extra poles, augers, tents, etc. that can be used

     the day of the event

  *  who has extra equipment to donate to the participants

This will be the first time the FAST will hosting this type of event.  Let us know what local knowledge you may have.  This type of event will be open to everyone that is interested to find out how to enjoy ice fishing.

  • Count me in! I will bring a couple rods and a spud (old school,or weak brain/strong back? I will let you decide). I will also bring my hook removal (medical) kit as I have seen some of you guys in action. We should (seriously) consider barbless hooks for the safety of the kids and the fish. I can bring about 50 barbless hooks if you like. I will also bring a couple of kids. It sounds like a fun way to serve!
  • Update: BassPro is gearing up for ice fishing!

    Lots of equipment (from shelters, sleds, rod/reels, pop-ups, etc) up for sale. If you have time to wander and see what it takes to go ice fishing, that would be great! I have not been to Cabelas yet, but I bet they are not far behind either.
  • Hey I'm up for trying a new lake. Especially one that may have less pressure than a public access lake. Ask Frank if they have a hyrdographic map of the lake available, might be helpful. Sounds good looking forward to it, thanks Chuck.
  • Frank Ryde had the idea of joining the Hunters Creek Club in Metamora. That way we could host our annual pheasant hunt and ice fishing event at the same location (differant days). The lake at HC is stuffed with all kinds of fun fish and is right next to the lodge that would provide a warm fire and coffee and hot chocolate for cold fishermen. Once we find out what it cost we can make the call. Im not sure how many kids would show but I'm guessing 50 +
  • I have a power auger, a portable shanty good for 2-3, 4 rods, and 2 tip ups. I do not have any electronics for use on the ice though. Would be happy to take part in this event. Anyone have suggestions as for a location? On line they say Cass lake is a good option. Also, any idea on how many we may be looking to accommodate? Well hope to be talking to others soon.
