I cannot attend most Tuesday meetings  because of my commitment to Connor and karate.

I love what FAST has become and the direction it is going in.  The discussions and disagreements about money, spending, mission statements , committees etc  are painful but useful.  The disagreements and strong feelings along with God lead will help us to clarify our goals and focus.

Let me tell you what FAST is to me.  Fast is a group of men, who love God and have a desire to grow in Christ and help other men do the same.  Fast does this through a focus on the outdoors, fishing, hunting, shooting etc. By spending time with each other in studies, weekend events (BBB, GGG, Kicking Bear etc), serving (BBQ) and mission trips we have the time to disciple, encourage, correct and build each other up. 

Fast uses the hook of the outdoors to be able to draw men into relationship with each other.  We are not about kids, but offering kid events brings fathers.  We are not about feeding the poor, but the serving opportunity brings men together to spend time with each other serving.  I am in favor of spending money on any activities/charities that will bring FAST member together for extended periods of time and attract other men looking for community.

There are lots of worthy places to send money.  But I do not think we are called to do that.  I believe we are called to spend the money when it brings our members into relationship with other men.  I am also not afraid to let money sit in our account until those occasions arise.

Agreed, I do think we can get carried away at a meeting and vote to spend money that we cannot afford. Large sums like that should go to the finance committee first to see if we can pay for it and meet our other commitments. If the finance committe shows that we can fund a new request and still meet our standard yearly commitments, then it can report back to the general meeting that funds are or are not available. The general meeting can then vote on the issue.

Why am I feeling that this is all backwards? Shouldn't we have the finance committee make these kinds of desicions without the need to involve the rest of the team? Remember what happened this spring when I said something about our account possibly being used for other ministries stuff. I thought a fight was going to break out. So what is the roll of the fianance committee if it's not to make final desicions on how we spend Gods money? To be brutally honest I was shocked that a desicion was made to donate $2,500 without the comittee weighing in on it. I wasn't there so maybe I missed something. i think this is a bad idea to put these kinds of sensitive issue out to general vote. It could really hurt our team since everyone has a differant opinion.

My two cents:

Anything over $200 goes to a vote at the next General Meeting.  That's what was agreed on almost 2 years ago.  Present the request to the group at the next meeting.


As far as mission trips, that has already been discussed and ratified.  As Paul says, "moving on".

Guys, I'm being contacted by others at KCC about the possibility of donations for thier group or mission trip (KCC but non FAST people).  These requests will most likey only increase.  We need to figure out how to respond to these requests.  This is all good and an answer to prayer about how God wants us to use these funds but we do have a budget and not all requests can be honored right? As of now I have 2 requests for funds. No specific amount is being requested.

Hello Guys,

Here is my proposal concerning money usage/approvals...

1) For the major/large FAST events (Wild Game Dinner, Lapeer Sportsmen, and Kicking Bear, etc..) we should have a full vote during a regular meeting so everyone is aware (no surprises). We know that we are going to have at least 3 events that will cost more than $500.00.

2) For smaller events/activities that cost between $150 to $500.00 the team needs to decide how many of these events we can afford per year. It should based upon how much money we have in the bank after we block out money for the 3 major events. Again, no surprises. Maybe that means 3 or 4 official smaller events/promotional activities per year?? (Examples: Gobblers Guns & Gospel, Bible Bows & Bogies, etc..)

3) For any activity that costs less than $150. The costs should be absorbed by the individuals hosting/coordinating that activity.

This proposal will add a little more structure to FAST, but I think it make sense. We need feedback from the team and come to an agreement. I am open to any suggestions. We just don't want to run out of money in one year and upset people.

Chris, great idea about selling add space! I can't say that Steve, Pete, or myself should take full responsibility for selling add space. It would be better to open that up to the group and the contacts that already exist. I barely have enough time for my day job and keeping up with my family/home needs.

I'm here. I been talking to Robin Potts about how we deposit funds and pay for needed items/events. She sent me a long letter that I will boil down to a basic outline for simplicity. I will share the process at the next meeting. Secondly, I invited Robin to our next general meeting so she can meet the guys.

I am excited about the new committee structure. We have come a very long way in a short tiime. This will help us to continue with God's blessing to grow in numbers and outreach.
