Kids Devotional Outing

The fathers in one of my Men's Groups would like to do a combination archery teach and devotional with our kids, mostly boys from about 8 years old up to 16.  We have a devotional to fold into the event and even have a warehouse facility and one guy that can teach the kids about archery, but we are in need of equipment for the age ranges mentioned.  If you have appropriately sized equipment to loan and /or would like to be involved in this outing to any degree, please contact me by responding here or calling me at 248-953-5942

  • I have dropped a line to Craig Mortz about this event and I am still waiting for a reply.
  • Petty-here's all I have right now for info...
The fathers in one of my Men's Groups would like to do a combination archery teach and devotional with our kids, mostly boys from about 8 years old up to 16. There will likely be a total of 6 to 10 kids in that age range. We have a devotional to fold into the event. I have acess to a warehouse facility, the owner of which might also be able to teach the kids about archery, but we are in need of equipment for the age ranges mentioned and possibly one more "instructor". I'm pretty sure he has some straw/hay bails and targets. This would be a one day one time event and would need to take place on a saturday. If I had everything lined up it could take place in a couple of weeks but could also be a month or two from now depending on equipment availability. I can be reached at rwadeco@wowway.com or 248-953-5942
    Thanks!

Thanks for responding! I will put some info together and send out but will not be until this evening fairly late. Hope that will be in time. Did you mean send it to you here? cuz I don't think I have your email address.

Hey Roger! I am going to be with Craig Mortz this weekend, (He is the founder of the Tony Semple foundation.) They take all kinds of kids hunting, so I will ask if they have some archery tackle that we can use for this event. I am guessing but, I think he will want to know some of the details of the event before agreeing to lend out equipment. So, pull together all the info you have for this and email it to me. I will be meeting with him in the morning of Sat. the 30th. I hope it works out, I have a 10 yr. old brother that I would love to have come to your event...
  • Thanks Marty! I will follow up with him.

    Hello Roger,

My name is Marty Olkowski. I have a contact that might be able to help you. His name is Gary Williams (will1009@msu.edu). Gary was able to let us use about 30 fishing poles last year for a fishing event. He works for MSU/NDR and coordinates youth events. He might be able to help?

  • Ya, that's what I was thinking....Cool, nice work Chris!!
  • What about the guy that Craig Mortz introduced Marty to that does the outdoor events for the DNR or Michigan State? Wasn't he local? I'll point Marty in toward this post.

  • I understand what you are saying. There are going to be anywhere from 6 to 12 kids in that age range. Sorry I can't be more specific than that right now. In your opinion is this going to be possible to pull together all the pieces, or should I be looking for another archery club to work with?
    Thanks for your time.
  • The ages of 8 to 16 is a pretty broad range due to the size of each kid. Depending on how many kids attend will give a better idea of what bows will be needed because of the differences in draw length. There are bows available that can be adjusted for draw length without a bow press which might be the best bet since it can be "fitted" to each one quickly instead of having a bow with a set draw length and trying to match the kids to the bow. A Genesis bow would be a good choice, if you could find a person with one, because it covers a wide range of draw lengths and poundage.

    Hi Jarett,

I have not set a date yet as there are too many unknowns about equipment, location and availability of qualified help (nobody in our group is currently into archery). The friend's warehouse I mentioned is in Troy near Maple and Crooks. The date will most likely need to be a saturday and could be arranged as soon as the equipment and instruction is lined up. I'm assuming I will need at least 3 different sized bows for the age range, but maybe you can tell me. Thanks for responding and I will keep you posted about the status and planning of this event. I will check to see if anyone might want /need to use a "lefty" bow, but doubt if they would even know. :)
P.S. - I had this planned a long time ago at an archery club...long story but it didn't happen.
